.....and no one bothered to get me any gifts. That's just rude people! Come on!
Nah, just kidding, I'm not mad.
So yeah, today is the day one year ago that I started using Vox and I can remember it quite clearly.
I was working at Call For Help at the time and it was during July 2006 Taping Week. I had just gotten back from lunch with Leo, Amber, Mike Laz, Sean, and Mike Hogue, and Leo was uploading a video he made during that lunch to Vox. As I was watching him do this, Leo was showing me all the cool features that Vox had at the time. Because it was in beta every feature that Vox had definitely didn't even look like it was in beta. It honestly looked like a finished product.
So as Leo was showing me this I was getting really excited about Vox and what it had to offer. Then Leo asked if I wanted an invite, and when you get asked by Leo for an invite to something, you definitely don't turn it down. So I said, "Yeah, sure!"
And within minutes I was blogging away and setting up my very first Vox Blog.
So that's the story, sorry that it is pretty short, but hey I can honestly say that I got started here on Vox because of Leo and his great generosity.
So I would like to thank him most of all, and also I would like to thank Six Apart for giving us this great service and I can't wait to see what the future holds!
Before I go, here is the very first post I made on Vox that day while on set at Call For Help.
So this is vox eh?
...
Cool
Thanks Leo

Yep, so I even started the Toodles way back then too. LOL
So without further ado, I raise a glass of really expensive wine(because on the Internet, I'm a billionaire you see) and I toast to my Vox blog for being one year old, and with the hope of more years to come.
As always I remain obediently yours....

There is one thing that I learned never to underestimate when it comes to this blog, and that is audience.
Oh sure, I would love to have a huge audience, I think I've talked about this before, but I never really understood how big of an audience this blog has accumulated.
As an example, I have a podcast called "This Week in Geek" (small plug) and I use Dreamhost.com to host the site. Great site by the way, use coupon code SNOW if you want to get a discount on signing up. Now, with dreamhost, and like any other web hosting company, you can keep track of statistics on your site. Who's come from where, how many hits there is, etcetera, etcetera. With these stats, I just happened to check the overall stats for the month of February when the podcast first really launched, and guess who was the top referrer? .... Yep this blog.
It was weird seeing that at the top of the list of referrers was my blog!
And, I'm not talking small numbers here. For the entire month of February I had over 600 hits to thisweekingeek.net. 600 hits?! Are you kidding me?!
Wow, I never thought that there is that many people out there who are reading what I type. Now sure I am assuming that it's not 600 individual people who came to TWiG from my blog, and I am expecting several repeat click-throughs. But, still....wow.
Thank you to everyone that reads what I have to say and cares about what I say and do. I originally started my blog as a way to keep my writing skills going, and I started a blog on Vox because Leo told me how great Vox was, and I still think Vox is awesome. I've had my blog for almost a year now here, and I still love this community and this blog, the same as when I started.
So if you're out there and you are reading this....thank you. Let me know what you like about this blog, let me know what you would like to see more of, more stories, more fun stuff, videos, anything I should do less of? I'm asking this because I know how powerful a community can be, so I'm reaching out to the According to Snowball community. let your voices be heard and accounted for!
That is all.

Well, well well, so it is apparantly the talk of the Vox town that new "personalized" banners are all the rage.
Well, being a band wagon jumper myself, you just know I have to jump on this.
So what do you think?
If you think you could do better give me a shout, make your submissions. I will totally accept anyone who has better Photoshopping skills than me.

So I wake up this morning and I get this message in my mailbox that one of my good neighbors Shinmaryuu sent me a private message on Vox. I thought, cool! I never usually get private messages from people, so I logged in to check it out.
He had told me that he had been thinking about how social networking is the way to be online, more in particular in comparison to that lovely News Corp crappola of a site called Myspace. Oh yes, that myspace. He had thought about posting his thoughts on it, but he thought he would give me a heads up because I'm apparantly the head Voxionary (well hey I wrote it, I guess that makes me the leader by default. Which is cool, but odd, sounds like a cult doesn't it?). Anyway, I told him "Dude, you should totally write about it."
And I have to say I totally agree. Myspace does gets some things right, such as music and custom skins. But other than that I have always said that Vox took the best part about social networking and made it fun and enjoyable. It's not about the quantity of how many friends you have anymore, it's the quality of friends you have. Here they are all connected, plus you get to see a little bit about their lives by reading their blogs. There has been tons of times where I would read a post from one of my neighbor's neighbors and would add them to my neighborhood because there was something there I liked about them. Myspace doesn't have that. Sure you can add other people's friends to your own friends list, but you don't really get that social intimacy as you do with Vox. You don't see into someones life on Myspace all you get is stats about someone. Short notes about that person. Which may or may not be real. Here it's a little bit more real.
Anyway, I just wanted to let everyone know about what Shinmaryuu wrote, and please if you read this blog regularly, post a comment on Shinmaryuu's blog. Keep the conversation going.

P.S. Do you think I should maybe make this Voxionary thing legit? Tell me your thoughts.
I am so excited for this, I cant' wait until tomorrow when Vox is released.
Of course I will lose 12 cool points when Vox goes public, but hey, if you haven't figured it out already, I LOVE VOX!
That is all.
Carry on.
